Then look for a yes. Because anything less than that is a no!
A recent film by Tinder India captures a simple truth about consent: “Look for a yes. Because anything less than that is a no.” In POSH conversations, understanding consent is rarely straightforward, but starting with this principle can help employees recognise boundaries and respect them.
In this edition of #todayinposh, I want to share a short film on consent, released recently by Tinder India.
In this video, through a game of "Never have I ever", the discussion leads to conversation on sexual harassment and/or assault, including but not limited to a breach of consent.
During the workshops, one question that gets asked often is "how do I know that there is consent?" Or, "do we have to ask for permission every time?" The answer to these questions is not simple because often, people do not respond with a resounding yes every time.
But there is a line in the video that made total sense to me. "I guess I just don't know how to figure out if it's a no."
"Then look for a yes. Because anything less than that is a no!"
You may not agree with all aspects of the video or some bits may seem too simplistic. However, it is thought provoking and it is a good starting point to talk about consent.
